Windy and Roger--Just Because | {Raleigh Portrait Photographer}

Roger and Windy are just a FUN couple! They joke around and laugh, which makes them a joy to be around. Over the Christmas holiday, Roger contacted me to purchase a gift certificate for a photo session for the two of them just because they wanted some pictures together (what a fabulous idea)! So over the weekend, we had their session, and it was a delight to have the opportunity to work with these two. Thank you both for having me capture your sweet relationship, and I hope we can work together again soon!

About a year ago, I photographed Jen and Yuriy's wedding that was held at Yuriy's brother and sister-in-law's (Kathy and Sergey) house in Durham. So, I was thrilled to get a call from Kathy and Sergey to ask me to come photograph their newborn baby boy, Peter, at just five weeks old! Peter is SUCH a sweetie, and it was fun to hear all about their first weeks at home as we prepare for our first baby to be born in just a few weeks/days. Kathy and Sergey, thank you for having me photograph your new bundle of joy, and I hope to see little Peter grow up!

When it comes to describing the Wilson family, there just aren't enough kind words! When in college, Mark and Tricia graciously gave so much time to working with college students (including me) at Forest Hills Baptist, and I will never be able to thank them enough for the amazing examples they gave us--a strong relationship, an amazing family and a truly dedicated faith. When Tricia contacted me a few weeks to ask if I would take pictures of their five kids that were all going to be in the same place at the same time, which is a giant task these days, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to see their family and photograph such a sweet time! We met out at the NC Arboretum, and I just loved our session--even if it was 90 degrees! Overall, I hope that you can see the love that these brothers and sisters have for each other and the personalities that just SHINE!

This sweet Brady family was awaiting the arrival of their second addition, Palmer! A few days before Palmer was born, we had a family session to capture some of these moments before baby Palmer arrived. Big sister, Ella Grace, is a doll, and she has the cutest personality! It is so fun to see this family grow as we have known them for several years. Lauren and I went to Meredith College together, and we met Shawn through the church we attended during college. Knowing that we were pregnant at the same time, Lauren suggested that we swap photography sessions with each other since she is also a photographer! Loved this session and LOVE these images :)

Meghan and Tyler Get Married! | {Raleigh, NC Wedding Photographer}

On Sunday, March 20th, I spent the day capturing sweet memories of Meghan and Tyler's wedding at the Cardinal Club. These two have had a countdown for their wedding day ever since the date was set--they have been SO excited for their celebration to come! It all began when Tyler asked Meghan to marry him using some precious cupcakes! Then, the planning and details began, but all of the planning stress seemed to melt away when they saw each other for their "First Look" before the ceremony began. Meghan and Tyler enjoyed their day as they celebrated with family and friends while overlooking the city of Raleigh--it was beautiful! Isn't the cupcake cake adorable? It was only appropriate for their ring shot to include cupcakes in the order of a stoplight since the stoplight is where their love story really began. Congrats you two!

Odin is just plain cute--there is no way around it! We took a spin on our photo session and made it "A Day in the Life of Odin," so he could show me all of the fun things that he does with mommy and daddy. He is living life to the fullest, and it was amazing to see him have a ball doing SO many things at age 2! From making juice (he even made me a glass of his own yummy creation of strawberry and apple) to playing games to reading books, he showed me all kinds of fun things to do! Thank you to Bronson, Celia and Odin for showing me a fabulous time.

Ashley and Sean are SO sweet and were a JOY to work with for their wedding! Ashley called me a few months before her wedding to tell me that her photographer had fallen through, and she was really hoping to talk since I recently photographed two of her friends weddings. I was thrilled to answer her call and have the opportunity to work with yet another sweet bride that is friends with two of my previous brides! Ashley was a very calm bride and just took in the details of her day as she got ready with family and bridesmaids for her December 18th wedding. Sean is such a gentleman and a truly kind person to be around. It was evident the love that these two have for one another and those that surround them, which makes their celebration even more special. With a ceremony at St. Francis of Assisi and a reception at Bay 7, these guests were in for a treat. As you browse through these pictures, you might recognize someone that you have seen before! Familiar with this song? The Neon Trees lead singer, Tyler Glenn, is a long-time friend of the groom's, and I have to give him props--I can see why he and Sean have been friends for so long--both are just kind and great to be around. Last summer, I went in to get my eye exam and started talking with a sweet girl that was helping me check-in and get ready for the doctor. As we chatted, she asked me what my job was, and the next day, I got an e-mail from her that she was engaged and wanted to meet to talk about wedding photography! As I met with Meghan and Tyler, I found out that they met at work but then ran into each sitting at a stoplight (notice the intersection that is highlighted in this engagement session). She also mentioned that he proposed using one of her favorites--cupcakes! I must admit cupcakes are one of my favorites too, and this is just one reason why we hit it off, and I became their wedding photographer. PAEMST 2010 Awards Reception | {Raleigh, NC Event Photographer}

Each year, the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching honors educators that have set themselves apart by offering students creative ways to experience what they are learning! For the second year, I had the honor of photographing the reception that was held for the 2010 finalists. I look forward to this event because I did teach, and I love the art of teaching, so it is inspiring to hear each of these educators as they stand up to share their story. Teaching is one of the hardest jobs you can have, and I admire these finalists for not only having a hard job but also doing amazing things in their job! Congratulations to these finalists--I look forward to hearing the results for this year!

Breanne and Patrick Get Married! | {Raleigh Wedding Photographer}

Breanne and Patrick were a fabulous couple to work with, and it all started with Breanne's first phone call to inquire about having me as her wedding photographer. When Breanne called the first time, we spent two hours talking, and it felt like we had been friends for years! I just love it when that instant connection happens---it adds so much to the experience of working together. Breanne and Patrick were married and held a perfect reception at Brier Creek Country Club. Their families and friends were just marvelous to work with and celebrate with--they have some FUN dancing genes in their family! I have loved staying connected to this sweet couple to hear about new jobs, moving, etc. already, and I can't wait to hear more as the time goes by. Iyam and Olivia are one of the most energetic, fun-spirited couples that I have worked with! Their engagement shoot was a blast followed by a fabulous wedding celebration. Nellie's aunt, Margaret, and I went to Godwin High School together, and we shared many memories together throughout those four years! Over the past years, Margaret and I will cross paths through my family since she goes to the same church and is involved with leading the youth group. When Margaret found out I was having mini-sessions in Richmond, she immediately wanted to sign-up her sweet niece, Nellie, to have a mini-session! Meredith, Nellie's mommy and Margaret's sister, and Margaret brought Nellie out for her mini-session, and we had fun just watching Nellie take it all in.

When I was in college at Meredith College, I met Connie. Connie was a Communication major just like me, so we had lots of classes together. We would always find a way to sit near each other and chat! Eventually, we figured out we had a lot in common, and we decided to start doing things outside of school together. Connie talked me into trying Jazzercise, and I really did love it. Then, we would meet up at church and finally meet each other's significant others/family--Roger (Connie's husband) along with their children, Jordan and Joshua and Nathan (my boyfriend at the time, now husband). When Nathan and I were engaged, we decided that we wanted Connie and Roger to be our mentor couple in a Pre-Marital class that we were taking at Hope, and then we asked them to do a reading in our wedding. Although we don't see each other often, we can always pick up where we left off, and I just love this fabulous family! It was so fun meeting up with them to catch-up and have a mini-session.

Baby Lily | Mini-Session {Richmond, VA}

Lily's mommy, Kristy, and I go waaaay back! Kristy and I have known each other since she was a newborn, and I was four months old. When I was first born, my mom wanted to stay-at-home, so she decided to run an ad in the newspaper that she was available for babysitting. Low and behold, Kristy's mom and dad came over to meet my mom while Kristy was still in the womb. Little did they know, we would end up having the same name! A few weeks after Kristy was born, she started coming to our house everyday while her parents returned to work. We became best friends and really grew up together for a large part of our childhood. We have so many memories together, and it is just amazing to now see Kristy as a mommy to Lily! Lily is SUCH a good baby, and to me, she looks JUST like Kristy did in all of her baby pictures :)

A few years ago, I went back to graduate school for elementary education. At the time, we lived in Richmond, VA, and I had the privilege of doing my student teaching at a fabulous, brand-new elementary school! During my time at CTES, I met incredible teachers, parents, and students. Alyssa was working at CTES at the time, and we would often share our stories of going back to school for education. Her sweet children, Kara and Michael, were in the classes that I worked with throughout that year, and I just grew to love the Chalifoux family. After moving to Raleigh, I found out that the Chalifoux family was awaiting a new addition, and their sweet baby boy could not have a cuter smile! It was SO great to see this family after being away for a few years.

When we lived in Richmond about three years ago, we were part of a fabulous Sunday school class! This class was filled with newly married couples, and we just loved our time with this group. Clint and Sally-Ann were one of the couples in the group, and we just loved getting to know them and becoming friends! I loved meeting the Hawes family--Carrie, Barry, and Abbey! Carrie heard about my holiday mini-sessions from a mutual, sweet friend of ours, Shannon. When she e-mailed me, I was so excited to get to meet her because I had heard such wonderful things. Well, the whole Hawes family is wonderful! We met at NCSU Centennial campus, so we could have Abbey in our photo shoot too. The weather was perfect (right after a rain storm), the family was fun, and we got some images that seem to really capture this sweet family being themselves! When I started my college days at Meredith College, I was seeking opportunities to babysit. Little did I know, I would meet families that became lifelong friends! The Durham family is one of these families, and I just have to pinch myself when I see that Grace is now in 4th grade (she was 8 months old when I started babysitting her), and her brother, David, is 5 years old (he wasn't even born when I babysat Grace). A few weekends ago, we met at Yates Mill Park to have a holiday mini-session, and it was SO fun to see the Durham family and just re-connect. You all are so sweet and so dear--I am so blessed to have met you all so many years ago!

September 18th was a fabulous day for a wedding! The weather was beautiful, the scenary was amazing, and the couple...completely in love! Jessica and Jordan had dated for six years before saying, "I do," and those years of dating included high school and college. It was so apparent that their family and friends were extremely excited for these two to tie the knot and begin their married life together. Jessica's Bridal Portraits! {Richmond Portrait Photographer}

Jessica truly is a joy to be around! I grew-up going to church with her new hubby, Jordan, and I was excited to meet her when we took her bridal portraits at the Amber Grove Inn, which was also the site of their wedding and reception. In June, I pulled into the venue, and I was blown away by the beautiful setting--fields, barns, a swing, etc.--truly a dream come true! Then, I met Jessica, and I knew we were going to have a perfect session with a beautiful bride a fabulous setting. Sweet Luke is 9-months! {Raleigh Children's Photographer}

When Luke was born six weeks early, his sweet mom, Shannon, called me to set-up his first photo appointment! It is SO fun to be able to see little ones grow-up and change, especially in their first year. After our first session, Luke's family decided to book the first-year package, so I could capture Luke several times as he is growing and changing. His newborn session and 3-month session had passed, and I couldn't believe it was already time for his 9-month session! Steve and Shannon, Luke is just precious, and I am so thankful that we "found" each other through this special time! Now onto sweet Luke pictures from his 9-month session :)

Blake is Graduating! {Richmond Senior Portrait Photographer}

Blake is one of my brothers, and I really, really cannot believe he is in his Senior year of high school! When I was 9 years old, I found out that I was going to have a baby brother---needless to say, I am a bit of a mother hen! Over the years, I have found myself playing lots of different roles in Blake's life--from sister to friend to counselor to cheerleader--it is amazing to be able to remember my brother from the day he was born and to now watch him take steps into the next stage of his life. Another crazy thing is seeing my brother on the other side of my camera! As much as he would not want to admit it, I think he had "fun" taking his Senior portraits--especially as the Amtrak train raced behind him. Blake--we wish you all the best as you get through your Senior year and begin the college application process! We love you and always want the BEST for you :)

Boston-bound! {Raleigh Photographer}

At the beginning of August, Nathan and I were able to travel to Boston for just a few days! I have always wanted to go to Boston, and it definitely did not disappoint. The surroundings are clean and beautiful in the midst of a busy city-life...I really enjoyed it a lot! There is the age-old debate of...do we take the "big" camera or just our point-and-shoot? Well, we took the D700 and the point-and-shoot, so we could enjoy the "big" camera for some of our own memories---there were several times, we didn't carry it around, but here are some of the shots that we captured while in Boston--you could say we did a quick "college tour"--we walked around Boston University and Harvard (see the pearly gates of Harvard below).

Jackie and Kevin Get Married! {Charlotte Wedding Photographer}

I love referrals--it is so fun to have clients that refer me onto their friends--last year, Jennifer and Stephen got married, and I had the privilege of being their wedding photographer. This year, their friends, Jackie and Kevin, were married exactly one year later. They had a perfect Saturday evening, outdoor wedding in Charlotte, NC! The setting was beautiful along with a fabulous sunset--a photographer's dream :) Jackie is one of the sweetest people I have EVER met--she loves to hug and it was priceless watching her compliment each guest as they came through the receiving line. Kevin and Jackie had a ceremony and reception truly focused on their love for one another and celebrating the beginning of their marriage. Andrew is Graduating! {Raleigh Senior Portrait Photographer}

Andrew is just beginning his Senior year at Cary Academy, and he was a champ getting his Senior portraits taken outside in the H.O.T. weather! Andrew is my husband's youngest cousin, and we cannot believe that he is almost off to college...with seven total cousins in his family, we have had lots of graduation celebrations over the past few years between high school and college...it is hard to believe that they are slowing down! Andrew--we are all so proud of you, and we cannot wait to see where you go to college and what you end up doing--you are so talented, and we know that you are going to be great at anything you choose to do! Bryan and Susanna's love for each other just shines as they look and smile at one another all the time! With their ceremony at Edenton Street United Methodist Church and their reception at the NC Museum of History, it was such a sweet time of celebration with their family and friends, and I was honored to be a part of their day. I just loved how Susanna did things the way that she envisioned them and not just because that's how things are at a wedding---she focused on making their wedding day their wedding day. Trisha and Collin were married on quite possibly on of the HOTTEST days of the summer this year...July 24th! Their wedding was at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and their reception was at the Tuckahoe Women's Club in Richmond, VA. Even though it was h.o.t, they held up along with their bridal party throughout the day to have a fabulous celebration. Trisha was a reader in Susanne and Carlos' wedding that I shot in January, and I was thrilled when she asked me to be their photographer too! She is just such a sweetheart and wanted to get lots of photographs of her and Collin, which is music to my ears---she gave us lots of time to get those shots, which was awesome! Susanne Trashes the Dress! {Richmond Portrait Photographer}

In January, I was honored to photograph Susanne and Carlos' wedding in Richmond, VA. We planned to do a "Trash the Dress" session the day after their wedding, but they went on their way to their honeymoon...plus, it was too cold for mixing water, a bride, and her wedding dress. At the end of July, the water was a perfect answer to a HOT Sunday morning! This was my first "Trash the Dress" session, and Susanne was awesome...it really is fun to not have to worry about the dress getting dirty, wrinkled, etc. like we tend to do during the bridal sessions :)

Sawyer had a fabulous Curious George 1st birthday surrounded by his loving family and friends at Lake Wheeler Park! Laura Lee and Luke Get Married! {Greensboro Wedding Photographer}

Laura Lee and Luke met during Law School Orientation at Elon Law a few years ago. (Ironically, they are in school with my hubby, Nathan, even though that's not how we got connected!) Since meeting at Orientation, you can imagine the hours that they have spent in the library and studying. On July 2nd, they took a break from their summer internships to get MARRIED! Their wedding ceremony at Our Lady of Grace in Greensboro and reception at the O.Henry Hotel were perfect for a night of celebration with their close family and friends. Last weekend, I had the pleasure and joy of spending lots of time shooting the Alexander-Cherry wedding festivities! Their blog post to come soon, but in the meantime, I just had to share this FUN and CUTE wedding idea. Are you looking for a way to capture sweet messages from your guests? Do you want a cute way to see them and read them all the time? Check this out...Elizabeth and Graham had this out at their reception for guests to leave them personalized messages, and the messages were just so sweet! The guests wrote their messages on cut-out circles and pinned them onto the fabric. Elizabeth and Graham will just close the lid on the shadow box frame and hang it up to enjoy day after day...love this idea!

Elizabeth and Graham Get Married! {Hickory Wedding Photographer}

What an amazing weekend in Hickory, NC...last weekend, Elizabeth and Graham had lots of wedding festivities, and I honestly do not think either of them stopped smiling ALL weekend...it was precious to watch throughout the weekend. They were married at First Presbyterian Church and had their reception at River Bend Club. Elizabeth and Graham have an amazing relationship, and it is so apparent by the ways that they look at each other, talk to each other, and care for each other! Their smiles are so contagious that their family and friends could not help but have a fabulous weekend :) A friend of mine, Stacia Harrington, came along to photograph their wedding, and we had a great time just being a part of such a meaningful and FUN celebration! Thank you Elizabeth and Graham for having us, and we wish you the VERY best!

Jen and Yuriy Get Married! {Durham Wedding Photographer}

Jen and Yuriy had a sweet backyard wedding on June 5th! Jen is super-organized, and she did her planning long distance since they got married in Durham and currently live in Washington, DC. Jen and Yuriy have a sweet connection---it was so evident that Yuriy wanted the day to be exactly what Jen had in mind! Their excitement to get married was so apparent throughout the day. As part of their wedding reception, Jen and Yuriy had a wedding cake pinata! The guests grabbed a bag and found their favorite candies as their wedding favor. At the end of their wedding, they gathered together to get a picture to send to Jen's brother, who is currently serving abroad. Congrats you two!

Prom 2010 {Raleigh Event Photographer}

Recently, I had the privilege of photographing three couples for their prom! This was a first for me, but these couples were great, even though it was SO hot! We ventured out to the NCSU Arboretum for their photography session, and we captured some fun shots before they were off to dinner and prom for the rest of the evening. This week's iheartfaces (http://iheartfaces.blogspot.com/) photography challenge theme is Smiles! I just love this image of Trumekka as she is getting ready for her wedding ceremony to begin. She was SUCH a calm bride with a beautiful smile, and she truly took every moment in throughout her fabulous celebration. In this image, her mother is helping her to finish gettin ready as she puts her pearl necklace on to match her earrings and bracelet.

Alyson is graduating in just a few weeks, and she is on her way to Appalachian State University. We met up at the NC State Arboretum to take her Senior Portraits, and I just love her beautiful eyes and smile! Recently, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with one of my favorite families, the Wilsons! While in college, Mark and Tricia were incredible role models for us as we were attending a church, where they helped to lead the college ministry. Now, their youngest son, Joel, is on his way to graduation in just a few weeks, so we spent some time taking his senior portraits around their house...we had to sneak in a few with the golf club :) Joel, best wishes next year as you begin your college journey!

Swinging away with mommy and daddy...

I got to meet K and her family yesterday as we took photos to mark her one-year birthday! K and her family are so sweet and were so much fun to visit for the afternoon. Happy one year birthday to K! Thank you to the Stock family for having me photograph this special time in K's life :) Please take note of the adorable pink and orange tutu along with the matching bow and shoes...love it!

This morning, I woke up to weather that was quite different than what was predicted for today! Weather forecast: Sunny with high of 78. Weather in reality: Rainy with high of 78. That didn't stop our plan of me visiting the Malone family to get some shots for their Christmas cards! M is 4, and K and H are 2-year old twins. Thanks for having me over...can't wait for our spring photo shoot...we will hope for sunny weather!!
